2010 MMTA TEACHER OF THE YEAR

STEVE ZOCCHI

Steve Zocchi, pianist, has been teaching and performing for 17 years in the Greater Lowell area.  He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree-Piano from Umass, Lowell, and continues his perpetual studies with Constantine Finehouse (NEC) and Steve Hunt (Berklee). He is in his 4th year as President of Greater Lowell Music Teachers Association. During this time he has organized and performed in many concerts, master classes and other educational events.  Steve also volunteers for the Piano Heritage Concert Series in Westford.  He is in his 10th year as Music Minister at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Lowell.  His next major concert appearance will be on October 17th in an educational program of Bach, Mozart, an original Sonata, and Jazz.

Steve maintains a vigorous teaching schedule with more than 65 students weekly.  He runs a teaching studio in Tewksbury which he inherited in large part from Kathy Maskell (formerly of MusicWorks Inc.) He continues Ms. Maskell’s philosophy of kindness and infinite patience.  His teaching mission is based on two main principles: 1. Empower as many people as possible in the pursuit of musical excellence.  2. Teach toward Bach.
