Massachusetts Commissioned Composer David Ibbett performed his piece entitled, Heart of the Galaxy, at the Quad State Conference in Saco Maine on October 2, 2021.  In the video link below, David talks about the science of Black Holes and his collaboration with scientists studying the galaxy.  He then presents his rhapsodic piano piece along with a student version at an intermediate level.

Heart of the Galaxy at Quad State

Following on this collaborative theme between science and music, Composer David Ibbett and Astrophysicist Anna Barnacka have created a 4-movement narrative that explores the full scope of a black hole galaxy. Working with an international team of scientists, David Ibbett has sonified each component of a black hole galaxy as musical notes and chords, allowing us to hear the full scope of a black hole galaxy as a musical harmony.  He has begun a Kickstarter campaign to help bring in a full symphony orchestra to record and perform the score for The Black Hole Symphony!
